The Real KKing is a singer and rapper from McAlmont, Arkansas, whose music is a form of storytelling that has lasted the test of time. Raised in the church, he discovered his voice early and later expanded beyond gospel into R&B and rap, shaping a sound influenced by Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and the competitive spirit of battle rap. With a growing fanbase and a clear sense of purpose, The Real KKing continues to evolve, committed to connection, growth, and leaving his mark.
LR: When writing your music, where do you pull your inspiration from?
KKING: Honestly, most of my inspiration comes from real-life experiences, whether it’s something I’ve personally gone through or something someone close to me has dealt with. I like to tell stories in my music because I feel like that’s what people connect with the most. When a song reflects something you’ve actually lived or witnessed, it hits different. I want my listeners to hear a track and say, “Man, I’ve been through that too.”
LR: Storytelling is essential to our brand, and our people. So, what’s your story?
KKING: I’m a singer and rapper from McAlmont, Arkansas. I grew up with my mom, granny, and two siblings, and church was a huge part of our lives. My mom and granny were both religious, so we were in church every Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday without fail. That’s actually where I first discovered my voice, singing in the children’s choir. At the time, nobody really knew I could sing like that, so as I got older and started stepping out more, it definitely caught people by surprise.I was inspired early on by watching movies like The Temptations.
KKING: I knew I wanted to be an artist, I just didn’t know how to make that dream real—especially since my family wasn’t really into anything outside of gospel music. But as I got older, I started exploring R&B, and artists like Chris Brown made me realize that this could be more than just a dream. My first real solo performance came through a gospel group called Children’s International Choir. My mom got me involved, and that’s where I met Ms. Valerie Foster. She’s the one who really gave me the confidence to perform solo. She let me do my first solo in front of a crowd, and the response was something I’ll never forget. That moment gave me the push I needed to chase music seriously.Eventually, I started writing my own songs—R&B and rap. At first, my family wasn’t too happy about me stepping outside of gospel, but they came to understand that my love for God never changed….I just found a new way to express myself.
KKING: On the rap side, Lil Wayne was a big influence. I also used to be heavy into battle rap—watching guys like Arsonal. His cockiness, his control of a room with just his words… that stuck with me. It helped shape my own lyricism and delivery.
KKING: As an artist, I’ve evolved a lot. If you go back and listen to my early tracks, you’ll hear it—I’ve gone through my “lover boy” phase, my “toxic king” era, and now I’m somewhere in between. But no matter what, I’m going to keep giving my supporters what they want to hear. The journey’s still just getting started, and in due time, I plan to be a household name.
LR: How did you know this was something you wanted to share? I know perfecting your craft takes time and you’ve built quite the fanbase — is this something you’ve always seen yourself doing?
KKING: Absolutely. Since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be on somebody’s stage or screen—whether it was through music, acting, or just entertaining in some way. I’ve always loved the feeling of connecting with people, making them feel something. That’s what really drives me.What keeps me going is knowing that my music might help somebody. I could say one thing in a song that makes someone feel understood, gives them motivation in the gym—or yeah, even inspires a kid on the toxic side (laughs.)
KKING: You never really know how your art will hit people, but that’s the beauty of it.
KKING: At the end of the day, this is what I’ve always wanted to do. It’s not just a phase or a hobby—it’s purpose. And I’m not stopping any time soon.
